FlowerAmnioFlow™

What is FlowerAmnioFlow™?

FlowerAmnioFlo™ is an aceullar amniotic fluid allograft. The amniotic fluid is donated from full term C-section deliveries. This fluid is treated with low dose gamma sterilization to remove any living cells but retain the growth factors.

How do amniotic fluid injections work?

Amniotic fluid contains different naturally occurring growth factors which stimulate cellular growth. This stimulation promotes healing, proliferation and cellular differentiation. They also contain some proteins and substances that lead to tissue repair or regeneration of tissue.

It has been used to help with wound healing for many years and is now being used to treat orthopedic injuries as well.  Amniotic fluid also contains hyaluronic acid, the main component of joint fluid.  This helps to lubricate the joint and keep it gliding smoothly, and may possibly help maintain joint health.

How long does it last?

When injected into the joints, studies show up to 6 or even 12 months of pain relief.  Because it works through the application of growth factors, it takes longer to see maximum benefits of amniotic fluid injections.  It typically takes 4-6 weeks to see maximum benefits after the injection

What are the side effects and aftercare?

Allergic reactions are extremely rare because the injection does not contain antigens that alerts your body to a foreign substance. The treatment process is short and performed on an outpatient basis. The procedure site may be red and sore to the touch and may last for 2-3 days. After treatment you may be given instructions for some form of physical therapy.

Is it covered by insurance?

These injections are often covered by Medicare, but not by private insurance yet.  Before providing the injection for you, we will need to seek authorization with your insurance company and then order the material.  It can take up to a week to obtain authorization and receive the amniotic fluid.
